NHHEAF University
Presentations for NH Students, Parents and Educators
College Overview (Seniors & Parents, Juniors & Parents)
Applying for college admission and financial aid can be overwhelming. There are
applications to be completed, deadlines to meet, essays to write, award letters
to be interpreted and complex language to understand. This evening session is
intended to educate the High School Junior or Senior and his/her family about
the college admission and financial aid processes. Topics to be discussed include:
the qualifications colleges are looking for, questions to ask on a college tour,
college essay pointers, the application timeline, types of financial aid available
to students, scholarship search resources, timelines and calculating the family
financial contribution. (available for both high school seniors and juniors)
College Prep for Juniors (Daytime)
"With thousands of schools to choose from, how can I decide which college
is right for me?" "When should I begin the application process?" "When
is the best time to visit campus?" "How important is the college essay?" High
school students begin to consider these questions as they watch older siblings
and friends begin the admission process. This program is intended to answer their
questions and provide a practical college essay-writing exercise. During the
workshop, students will work to identify their personal and career interests,
locate colleges and universities that complement these interests and receive
scholarship search information.
Financial Aid Night Seminar (Seniors & Parents)
This evening program helps High School seniors and their families understand the financial aid process. Our financial aid experts simplify the manner in which students and parents apply for financial aid. We discuss types of aid, what forms to file, the importance of deadlines, various funding options and how to search for scholarship. The seminar also provides a detailed review of the FAFSA form to help parents understand, navigate and complete the form with accuracy and timeliness. Visit http://www.nhasfaa.org/speakersbureau.asp for more information on Financial Aid Events and our FAFSA Completion Program.
Financial Aid 101 (Students)
This daytime classroom program educates students about financial aid and scholarship basics. It may be the perfect complement to Financial Aid Night for seniors and parents.
Student-Athlete Workshop (Students & Parents)
Are your student-athletes informed about the college process? Do they typically have games and practices after-school when college planning nights are held? This initiative is designed to help your student-athletes with recruiting and college admissions. Invite one of our college counselors (who are also former NCAA coaches) to speak to your athletes and teams about the NCAA Clearinghouse, how to recruit yourself, recruiting strategies and ways to ensure they are finding the right fit both academically, socially and athletically. (day or evening programs available)
Get on the Bus: Workshop for Fifth Grade Students
While college may seem like decades away to most young children, the time to begin thinking about the road that leads to college is now. Created with fifth grade students in mind, this presentation is enhanced with a colorful twelve-page booklet. The metaphor of a journey is woven throughout, inviting students to become active participants. Considering future goals, participating in self-assessment, personality typing, and exploring majors are just some of the fun activities fifth grade students will enjoy during the college adventure!
Award Letter Seminar for High School Seniors & Parents
This evening program helps High School seniors and their families understand
and evaluate the financial aid packages and financing options available to them.
We discuss such issues as reporting outside scholarships, applying for student
and parent loans, avoiding scholarship scams and writing special circumstances
letters.
College Bear Events for K-8 Students
The official mascot of NHHEAF is available to visit schools for special programs and events. The bear can arrive for a quick meet & greet (handing out stickers and college-related material) or in-depth presentations with college planning experts to address students and parents on topics related to college. The Bear is a fun, interactive way to share the message of the importance of education beyond high school.
College Jeopardy (8th Grade Program for Students)
Developed in the “Jeopardy” game format, eighth
grade students are divided into teams to answer questions relating to college
life and the process of preparing for education beyond high school. Each question
introduces a new topic for discussion. Topics include: college lingo, financial
aid, the PSAT, importance of building a strong high school transcript, time management,
homework, job shadowing, extracurricular activities and volunteerism. Counselors
may find this workshop to be especially relevant during the course selection
process.
Early College Planning for Parents Grades K-8 (Parents)
It is never too early to begin preparing for a college education.
Between deciphering admission requirements and deciding
how to pay for college, parents can quickly become overwhelmed.
This seminar focuses on the parent's role in academic and
financial preparation for college.
